Consolidated Fire District No. 2, NE Johnson County Kansas issues burn advisory.

Prairie Village, KS February 13, 2017

Fire Marshal Todd Kerkhoff of Consolidated Fire District No 2 (CFD2) has issued a burn advisory due to unseasonably dry weather conditions.  Open burning (the burning of yard waste, trees, limbs, stumps, etc.) is prohibited by local ordinance in all of the cities served by CFD2, therefore burn permits are not issued for this type of burning. Although recreational fires are generally allowed, given the current unseasonably dry, warm and potentially windy weather conditions, CFD2 is strongly advising against the use of recreational fires until weather conditions are more favorable. CFD2 also advises anyone choosing to grill outdoors during these conditions to use extra caution; remain present while grilling, have a means of fire suppression available, and completely extinguish coals after grilling. Improperly discarded smoking materials are also problematic in these conditions. Cigarette butts should be completely extinguished and properly discarded.

Anyone with questions regarding this burn advisory should contact Fire Marshal Kerkhoff or Fire Chief Tony Lopez.
