Waste Management Residential Service Information
Each household should have two 65 gallon Polycarts --one for trash (black lid) and one for recyclables (yellow lid and decal showing recyclable materials).
Trash carts should be stored in a garage or behind the front building line of your home, and wheeled to the curb on your collection day.
Trash is limited to what fits in the carts.
If you have extra trash, you must purchase overage stickers
and place them on any extra trash bags. Stickers are $1.50 each and may be purchased at City Hall, the Community Center, from Deffenbaugh, or at these additional locations
. Place one sticker on each extra bag, and set the bags at the curb next to your trash cart.
Recycling is unlimited. Once you have filled your recycling cart, you may place excess in another container labeled with the word “recycling” or the universal recycling symbol.
Bulky item collection is on the first collection day of the month. Deffenbaugh will only collect large items, such as appliances or furniture, on bulky item day. They will not collect extra trash at the curb unless it is stickered. Construction/Building materials will also not be collected on bulky item day.
Lids for both the trash and recycle polycarts must be completely closed. Deffenbaugh will not collect trash from overstuffed carts.
Place your yard waste at the curb in biodegradable paper bags (available at local hardware stores), in a 32 gallon bin, or in a bundle no more than 4 feet long and 18 inches in diameter. Items cannot weigh more than 65 pounds.
Deffenbaugh will not collect large limbs, branches, or logs. Individual limbs placed for pickup must be no larger than 1.5 inches in diameter.
From January - October, residents may place 8 yard waste set outs (any combination of bins, bags, or bundles) at the curb each week for collection.
From November - December, residents may place 12 yard waste set outs (any combination of bins, bags, or bundles) at the curb each week for collection.
Extra items must have a Deffenbaugh overage sticker (see above).
Deffenbaugh residential customers may also drop off their yard waste at the landfill at I-435 & Holliday Dr. in Shawnee. Please bring proof of address. Leaves and grass must be in paper bags. No stumps or logs larger than 12" in diameter or any branches longer than 4 feet will be accepted.

If you are not able to prepare your large limbs for curb collection, please contact a private tree and lawn service.
