Diversity + Inclusion
Mission is a community committed to expanding inclusion of all those who reside, visit or do business in Mission. If you would like to share your own experience or perspective around the issues of racial equity and inclusion in Mission, please contact City Administrator Laura Smith via email or by calling 913.676.8352.
Racial Equity
In the summer of 2020, the City developed a plan to training, education, information sharing around these issues with our elected officials, employees, and the larger community. Read more about the efforts specific to the racial equity and transparency in the Mission Police Department here.
Non-Discrimination Ordinance
In December 2018, the City Council passed a City ordinance prohibiting discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations based on race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, marital status, familial status or military status. While state and federal law provides protections for many of these classes, the ordinance specifically added “sexual orientation and gender identity” to the other protected classes. Read the signed Non-Discrimination Ordinance.
If you have questions about the non-discrimination ordinance, or would like to report a violation please contact City Administrator Laura Smith via email or by calling 913.676.8352.
Communities for All Ages
Mission has received Gold level recognition in the regional Communities for All Ages program for including an aging lens in our Parks Master Plan and Comprehensive Plan. These considerations factored into ongoing service delivery. Read more.
