Mayor Sollie Flora

Mayor Sollie Flora was elected in November 2021 and sworn in on December 15, 2021. Immediately preceding her election as Mayor, Sollie served one term as a Ward IV Councilmember. Prior to serving on the City Council, she represented Ward IV on the Sustainability Commission, served on the Dog Park Task Force, and completed the Mission Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy.

As Mayor, Sollie focuses on ensuring strong delivery of core services (like improvements to our streets and parks), enhancing citizen engagement and participation, and promoting sustainable development. During her time as Mayor, Mission has invested more than $5M in improvements to our outdoor parks and roughly $2M/year to improving residential streets. Mayor Flora thanks Mission voters who voted to renew our dedicated parks and streets sales taxes for making this work possible. She hopes to hear from you about your ideas to strengthen our city going forward.

During her time on the City Council, Mayor Flora served as Chair of the Community Development Committee, Chair of the Finance & Administration Committee, and Vice-Chair of the Finance & Administration Committee. She also served as a member of the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, as a member of the Mohawk Park Stakeholder Steering Committee, and as Council Liaison to the Sustainability Commission.

Mayor Flora’s advocacy for our city extends beyond Mission’s borders. She currently serves as member of the Transportation & Infrastructure Services Committee and the First Tier Suburbs Council with the National League of Cities, is a member of Climate Action KC, and previously served on the Governing Body of the League of Kansas Municipalities. She is committed to building a strong region in Northeast Johnson County, actively participating in the Northeast Johnson County Mayors group, the Johnson & Wyandotte Counties Council of Mayors, and serving as the non-resident member of the Westwood Hills Planning Commission.

Mayor Flora is a proud graduate of Johnson County public schools. She went on to earn a B.A. in Sociology (with honors) in 2007 from Grinnell College and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School (cum laude) in 2010. She currently works as an in-house attorney for an international company.

Outside of work and her service to Mission, Mayor Flora enjoys spending time with her husband Dave, new baby Mackenzie, and their two dogs Wags and Wonton, as well as traveling (in particular visiting National Parks).
