Public Works Lead Maintenance Worker

The City of Mission is seeking a dynamic leader and team-oriented individual with a positive attitude to join our Public Works Department. You will join and supervise a great team while performing a variety of work tasks throughout the year.

The ideal candidate will have experience supervising crews, possess effective communication skills, and be experienced and knowledgeable in daily construction, operation of a variety of heavy equipment and maintenance in primarily the following area:

• City Streets (patching asphalt, potholes, and crack seal)
• Storm drainage facilities and systems
• Snow removal
• Ground maintenance/landscaping
• Safety procedures associated with the tasks listed above

Qualifications

• Experience in supervising personnel as well as the ability to plan, organize, and direct daily operations and maintenance activities.
• Considerable knowledge of types and levels of maintenance and repairs performed in Public Works operations.
• Considerable knowledge of field diagnostics and operation of heavy equipment; and methods, operations, materials, and safe work practices involved in Public Works, streets, stormwater, parks and related facilities maintenance activities.
• Possession of a valid Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brake endorsement or ability to obtain this license within six (6) months of employment.

Suitable candidates will possess a minimum of three to four years related experience, high school diploma or G.E.D and/or training; or equivalent combination of education. Experience in equipment operations and street maintenance experience.
The physical requirements for this position are considered heavy work, requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 100 pounds of force occasionally. Part Time Parks Crew

Overview: This is a Part Time support position for the Department of Parks and Recreation and is responsible for maintaining park amenities city-wide.  The position aids with information, first aid, safety, rental set-up/take down and park maintenance and cleaning.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the Parks Maintenance Supervisor. 

Salary: $14.00 – $16.00 DOE 

Minimum Qualifications: Must be 16 years of age with an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in Micro Soft Excel is preferred. Must be able to obtain First Aid and CPR certification within the first 90 days of employment. 

Job Duties, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Provide excellent customer service with a courteous and pleasant demeanor.
  • Ensure equipment and play features are operating as designed.
  • Resolve patron conflicts.
  • String-trim, weed park areas.
  • Prepare park pavilions/shelters for rental use.
  • Empty trash receptacles and restock Mutt Mitt stations.
  • Empty recycling and trash combination receptacles
  • Water trees and new landscaping elements as directed.
  • Assists in keeping restrooms clean and well-stocked with toilet paper and paper towels.
  • Adheres to department and facility policies.
  • Follow safe equipment use practices and procedures.
  • Maintain safe and usable trails throughout parks.
  • Attends staff meetings as necessary.
  • Use mechanical equipment associated with dragging and aerating sports fields.
  • Plant and prune trees and landscaping features seasonally.
  • Aid in periodic playground inspections.
  • Maintain park shelters through sanding, staining, and painting.
  • Working knowledge of recreational activities, rules, and regulations
  • Working knowledge of landscaping and park maintenance equipment
  • Ability to anticipate problems.

Police Officer

The Mission Police Department is soliciting highly motivated individuals for the full-time position of Police Officer. Those selected will enforce local, state and federal laws, traffic regulations and will investigate crimes and traffic accidents and will assist the public and serve a department that embraces the community policing philosophy.

State certified officers are preferred but when applicants are not certified, full training will be provided, when selected. Qualified applicants must have above average written and verbal skills.

All uniforms and equipment are furnished. A generous benefits package is included with paid holidays, sick and vacation time.

Starting salary: $54,112 DOQ

Applicants must be 21 years of age at the time of the application and have a high school diploma or equivalent with a clean criminal record and vision correctable to 20/20. Applicants must pass a written test, physical agility test, psychological test, medical/physical and drug screen. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required upon hire. Work schedule requires weekend, holidays, rotating shift work, overtime and court appearances. Applicants must live within a 30-mile radius of the Mission Police Department within one year of hire date.

Certified law enforcement applicants must not have any Brady/Giglio material in background to be eligible for hiring.

Swim Instructors

Overview:

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, this position is primarily responsible for teaching students how to swim in a safe manner at the Mission Family Aquatics Center. Swim Instructor staff also provides updates to patrons, schedule private lessons, and teach group lessons. This employee should possess excellent supervisory, communication, and public relations skills.

Salary:

Position starts at $15.00/Hour.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must be 16 years of age; or older.
  2. Must be able to work either T/Th evening and/or Saturday morning
  3. Must be able to teach 5 to 10 hours of private lessons a week
  4. Possess Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or have the ability to attain certification through city training.
  5. Must possess Red Cross CPR/AED/ and First-Aid or have the ability to attain certification through city training.
  6. Must have the skill and ability to maintain a safe environment for all patrons.
  7. Must successfully pass a background check.

Job Duties, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Follows safety procedures and practices.
  2. Teach infants, toddlers, and children water safety skills
  3. Maintain paperwork and update swim lessons as needed
  4. Work with minimal supervision during assigned class times
  5. Maintain all equipment used during swim lessons
  6. Be able to communicate effectively with parents and guardians about students needs
  7. Keep control of a class size of no more than 6 for toddlers, 8 for teenagers, and 10 for parent infant.
  8. Be able to teach all swim lesson skills to the standard set by supervisor

Lifeguards

Overview:

Under the supervision of the Aquatic Facility Manager, this position is primarily responsible for supervising patrons in a safe manner at the Mission Family Aquatics Center. Lifeguard staff also provides first aid, rescue assistance, and emergency assistance as necessary. This employee should possess excellent supervisory, communication, and public relations skills.

Salary:

Position starts at $14/hour

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 15 years of age; or older
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends
  • Required to have American Red Cross Lifeguard certification, or the ability to obtain certification through city-provided training
  • Required to have American Red Cross CPR/AED and First-Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification through city-provided training
  • Must successfully pass a background check

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Enforce and follow rules of the pool area at all times and practice preventative care
  • Learn the emergency action plan and help lead all emergency procedures
  • Maintain a clean and safe pool environment
  • Attend all training and in-service meetings
  • Maintain all characteristics of a professional lifeguard while on duty
  • Be courteous, tactful, and punctual
  • Complete and submit all reports and inspections
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
  • Ability to effectively communicate in a positive manner with the public
  • Ability to control large groups of people calmly and effectively

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 year previous of Lifeguard experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform all Lifeguarding and CPR skills proficiently
  • Ability to swim 300 yards continuously
  • Ability to work outside in extreme heat and cold

Ability to stand for long periods of time

Camp Assistant Directors

Overview:

The City of Mission Parks & Recreation Department is seeking applicants for assistant summer camp directors. This position will assist the Camp Directors in operations of the Mission Summer Camp for school-age children. Employment will run from the last week of May through the first week of August including training. This is a full-time seasonal exempt position that will work shifts scheduled between 7:00am and 6:00pm Monday through Friday. 

Salary:

Pay Range: $14 – $16 per hour 

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must be 18 years of age: or older.
  2. Completed 60 academic credit hours at a college or university level; or a combination of 30 academic credit hours and six months of job-related experience.
  3. Demonstrates administrative ability, knowledge of regulations governing school-age programs, and the skill to supervise the business operation of the program.
  4. Demonstrates administrative ability to schedule and supervise 10-15 staff members; schedule group rotations; plan and lead activities; and conduct positive relations with parents, participants, and other personnel.
  5. Possesses the skills to supervise the business operations of the program by completing all paperwork on time.
  6. Must have the skill and ability to carry out the program activities.
  7. Must have the capability to foster positive, healthy relationships with children and youth.
  8. Must be certified in CPR and First Aid.

  8. Assist the Groups with scheduling, programming and implementation of programs and activities.
  9. Attend all orientations and meetings.
  10. Complete and turn in all assigned paperwork on time.
  11. Know, follow, and enforce all discipline/behavior policies and procedures.
  12. Adhere to medication policy and possibly attend training to dispense medication & administer epi-pens.
  13. Adhere to late pick-up policy.
  14. Inspect and clean all designated program areas. Ensure a safe environment for all participants, parents, and staff.
  15. Maintain and care for equipment and facility.
  16. Document all situations, disturbances and problems at camp and report to the Camp Director.
  17. Must consistently model professional demeanor.
  18. Complete any other job duties as assigned.

Head Camp Counselors

Overview:

The City of Mission Parks & Recreation Department is seeking applicants for summer camp assistant directors. The Assistant Camp Directors will assist the Camp Directors in implementing the Mission Summer Camp (school-age children). PCC Crew Member

The City of Mission is seeking dynamic and team-oriented individuals to join our Parks + Recreation team at the Powell Community Center. This position interacts with patrons and participants throughout the facility, providing excellent customer service and encouraging patrons to use the facility properly. The job duties include verfying patron membership, following department policies and procedures, following safety procedures, providing assistance to instructors and staff upon request, responds to onsite injuries or incidents. Occasionally, the job will include assisting with special events or maintenance projects, scheduling use of the facility, rooms or equipment, and performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Six months of similar or related experience is preferred. Employees are expected to have acquired
  • High school diploma or GED preferred. American Red Cross/First Aid/AED/CPR Certification within the first 6 months of employment.
  • The ability to read and interpret written instructions, manuals and other documents as required.
