City Council Work Session

This work session will be a joint virtual meeting between the Governing Body, Planning Commission, the Park, Recreation and Tree Commission and the Sustainability Commission. The groups will hear a presentation on the Kansas City Regional Climate Action Plan recently adopted by the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC).

About the plan and next steps from MARC:

The plan provides a voluntary, flexible pathway to a net zero region by 2050. Hundreds of community members and stakeholder organizations across the metro shaped this plan, defined by a collaborative, regional approach that centers around equity and justice. Together, local governments, businesses, nonprofits, institutions and individuals can lead the way towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions and building climate resilience. What’s next?

Establish a regional coordinating council for climate resilience
Launch the Regional Building Energy Exchange (BeEx)
Establish targets for various strategies in the plan
Develop ongoing engagement strategies with vulnerable communities
Pursue funding to support the implementation of the Climate Action Plan
Expand regional tree planting and green infrastructure initiatives
