As we welcome the spring season, the City of Mission is excited to share important updates about our tree preservation and protection efforts. In late 2024, we passed a comprehensive new tree ordinance designed to help maintain and enhance our city’s beautiful tree canopy for years to come. These changes will help ensure our community stays green and thriving, while also promoting thoughtful development.
Here’s a quick rundown of what you need to know:
-
Updated Tree Lists
We’ve refreshed our lists of trees approved for streets and parks, as well as those that are now prohibited in these areas. These updates help us manage which trees are best suited for our city’s environment. -
Tree Protection for New Developments
Any major residential or commercial development projects will now require a tree protection and removal plan before construction can begin. This ensures that we’re taking steps to protect the trees we can and manage any removals responsibly. -
New Tree Replacement Requirements
If a tree is removed as part of an approved development plan, there are now specific requirements in place for replacing it. This helps maintain our tree canopy as the city grows. -
Dead Trees and Limbs
To help keep Mission safe and beautiful, we’ve clarified that any dead tree or limb in the city can now be declared a nuisance. This allows for more timely action to remove potential hazards.
We’re excited about these changes and how they’ll help preserve the green spaces that make Mission such a great place to live. Click here for all of the details and to dive deeper into the ordinance.
