Park Project Updates
Check here for regular updates on parks construction projects. Following the passage of the Parks + Recreation Sales Tax in 2022, plans are moving forward on capital projects in Mission’s parks.
Mohawk Park
Update As of 06/02/23:
Mohawk Park Improvement Update:
- Decorative batten installation complete
- Spray foam and drywall complete
- Roofing complete
- Doors installed
- Water fountains and outdoor sink installed
- Next up: Painting, fixture install, door hardware and signage, finish grade, seed and mulch
Update As of 06/02/23:
Mohawk Park is getting closer to Phase 1 completion. The cedar accent roof layer was installed, baffling, counter top and restroom paint is next.
Update As of 04/04/23:
Mohawk Park is getting closer to Phase 1 completion. The steel is on site and being set, laying block is finished and the parking lot is ready for use.
Update As of 03/14/23:
Mohawk Park Phase I is progressing as scheduled despite wild temperature fluctuations. ADA access points were buttoned up this week along with more progress on the restrooms and storage, retiring old drains, removing some more fencing and landscape preparation. Next up is finishing exterior walls and roofing and striping the parking lot stalls.
Update As of 03/03/23:
Mohawk Park Improvement Update:
- Final concrete trail tie-in poured
- Pavilion plaza concrete poured
- Restroom exterior block laid
- Parking lot lights connected
- Landscaping 80% complete
Update As of 2/24/23
- Construction continuing as scheduled
- Block foundation being laid and pavilion storage.
- Another section of trail poured
- Preparation for final concrete pad pour
Phase 1 improvements include:
- New bathrooms and a pavilion centrally located within the park
- Tiered concrete seating
- Plaza tie-ins to the existing trail system
- Demolition of the existing west parking lot with a new parking lot located on the south
- ADA sidewalk and improved pedestrian/crosswalk access
- Landscaping, benches and trash receptacles
Sands Construction, LLC of Leavenworth, KS is the general contractor for the project with SFS Architecture providing architectural and engineering services. The City will provide project oversight to help coordinate construction.
Portions of the park will remain accessible to throughout construction; the west and south trails are temporarily closed in preparation for parking lot demolition and installation. Construction fencing will clearly demarcate inaccessible areas to park patrons; please do not attempt access to those fenced areas. There may be a need for temporary road closures as equipment or materials move into and out of the site. We ask that pedestrians and motorists follow all posted signs to ensure your safety and that of the construction crews.
Waterworks Park
Update As of 02/13/23:
Waterworks Park Improvement Update:
- Final design kickoff meeeting held February 9
- Preliminary planning on park amenities
- Preparation for topographic and utility surveying
Phase 1 improvements include:
- New bathrooms and a pavilion centrally located within the park
Stantec will be completing final design services for Waterworks Park, to prepare to solicit construction bids in late summer 2023, to begin construction in winter 2023.
