Boards and Commissions
Sustainability CommissionMission has a number of volunteer boards and commissions that advise the City Council and city staff on various topics. The Mayor may also, from time to time, convene task forces to study specific issues affecting Mission. If you are interested in serving on a board, commission, or to be considered for a future task force, please direct a resume and letter of interest to Mayor Ron Appletoft.

Mission's Planning Commission/Board of Zoning Appeals is charged with guiding the future land use of the City by preparing the City’s Comprehensive Plan and by reviewing proposed rezonings, plans for development, and permits. As the Board of Zoning Appeals, it hears appeals and consider granting variances to the City’s zoning code.

Mission's  Capital Improvement Program Committee informs the development of the five year plan that is passed each August along with the City's budget to authorize spending on capital projects.

Mission's Sustainability Commission takes an active role in promoting sustainable development and best practices in city activities, advocating for polices that position Mission for a successful future.

Mission's Parks, Recreation, and Tree Commission helps plan and guide the activities of the City's Parks and Recreation Department and provides recommendations on the management of the Parks Master Plan. The group also identifies and protects Mission's historical trees and landscaping, and fulfills the requirements as part of maintaining Mission's status as a Tree City USA (since 2002).

Youth Membership: Two youth seats are included in the membership of the Sustainability Commission and the Parks, Recreation, and Tree Commission. High school students are encouraged to apply. The youth application is available here.
