Non-Discrimination Ordinance

In December 2018, the City council passed a City ordinance prohibiting discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations based on race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, marital status, familial status, or military status. While state and federal law provides protections for many of these classes, the ordinance specifically added "sexual orientation and gender identity" to the other protected classes.  Signed Non-Discrimation Ordinance (pdf)

As a community that respects and actively seeks to welcome and support all those who reside, visit, or do business in Mission, the ordinance now expands protections from discrimination. The ordinance was discussed during a number of Council committee meetings prior to its final approval. The public comment and discussion throughout the process was overwhelmingly in support of the measure. A summary of the consideration of the oridnance is listed below.
